Goldenpromises
Golden Promises
Artist: Carol Alleman
Dimensions: 6.25" x 4.25" x "
Artwork Value: $2900.00
Description: The Garden of Promises, which includes Promises, Golden Promises, Ruby promises, Blue Promises, and Snowy White Promises, were inspired by warm memories of Pennsylvania's early spring days. Choosing a favorite crocus hue proved impossible, however, the golden yellow and vibrant violet ones remain most vivid and cherished to me. The dependable crocus colorfully proclaimed spring's impending arrival; long before there was any other visible indications of its approach (save perhaps the tiny snowdrops). Many times these delicately, determined crocus denied the crusted snow its tenacity, popping their brilliant little heads through layers of both ice and snow. Most times, the short emerald, spear-like tips appeared precisely when we had simply "had enough" of the cold, short winter days and mounding drifts of snow. They promised new and hopeful days exactly when many grew sluggish and experienced the depths of "winter blues." In Lancaster County, the yearly discovery of the first crocus petals seemed an unspoken child-like contest among female adults in their banter: "Are your crocus up yet? Mine are!" Within these heart-warming memories, I received a larger gift. Here, in the desert of Arizona, we do not experience the unexpected joy of the crocus announcing the coming of spring. Yet, each spring I fondly remember their quiet sweetness and the contagious hopefulness they impart. The crocus promises the imminent arrival of spring. The tiny, brilliant crocus continues, consistently, each spring, to remind me of mysterious promises in its sweet whisper: nature knows "nature shows" the Way. In Golden Promises, trusting the power and potency of the unseen movement and growth in our lives, especially in those dark seasons when we cannot yet "see" evidence of either.

Addih-Hiddisch, Hidasta Chief
Artist: John Coleman
Dimensions: 7'3"" x 4'" x 2'"
Artwork Value: $75000.00
Description: First in Bodmer-Catlin Series.Call for price and availability. Winner 2004 Cowboy Artists of America Gold Medal, Artist Choice, and Kieckhefer awards.Monumental size is 7'3" x 4' x 2' in an Edition of 9. Maquette size is sold out. In the footsteps of Lewis and Clark, historian/painters Karl Bodmer and George Catlin set out to capture the images of the people of a new land. Today, these highly detailed portraits are some of the only records an artist like myself has to draw on for historical accuracy from this pre-photo era. For my new series, the Bodmer/Catlin documentaries, I will be using the portraits created in the 1830s of individuals from some of the tribes that Lewis and Clark encountered during their 1804 - 1806 expedition and some 25 years later were documented by Bodmer and Catlin. It is not my intention to add or take away from these works, but to interpret in my sculptural style a three dimensional portrait that will be a respectful complement to the original paintings. My first piece in this Series is a full figure of "Addih-Hiddisch, Hidatsa Chief" as painted in 1833 by Karl Bodmer. Bodmer wrote of his subject that he was a great warrior and chief and the geometric patterns on his body were tattoos, not paint. He wore a Euro-American hat, carried a trade tomahawk with a scalp lock attached and a peace medal around his neck. 3 left in the edition.

Navajo Agate and Turquoise Bracelet
Artist: Navajo artist unknown
Dimensions: 7" x " x "
Artwork Value: $1558.00
Description: Bandwidth approximately one inch. Bracelet size 7. On exhibit at the Arizona State Museum Jewelry Show "Set in Stone" from December 14, 2007 to February 20, 2010. Gems, minerals, copper, and even sea shells and other exotic goods have been carried across the Southwest along well-established and well-worn routes for more than 2000 years. "Set in Stone" brought this long history to light, featuring 800 objects and audio-visual displays. With Native jewelry and mining tools from across the span of time, and with mineral samples, photographs, and recordings, the viewer was transported on a journey of deep historical resonance along routes that trace how the quest for mineral wealth has shaped the identity of the Southwest. Designed to complement and coincide with the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, "Set in Stone" gives context and perspective to our communities annual gathering.
